DJI Neo

The DJI Neo is an ultra-lightweight personal drone with a 4K camera, AI person tracking, and palm-launch capability. No pilot experience required – just power on, take off, and shoot.

The series includes two models. The DJI Neo is an entry-level model for beginners, travelers, and occasional social media shoots.
The DJI Neo 2 brings more accurate AI tracking, better stabilization, longer flight time, and sensors that help avoid obstacles – for those who create content regularly.

Both models support QuickShots modes (Orbit, Dronie, Rocket), palm takeoff, and control via the DJI Fly app without the need for a controller.

At Xtreme.sk you will find the entire DJI Neo series, original accessories and authorized sales with support in Slovak.

DJI Neo – a compact drone for content creation

Take a drone the size of a grapefruit, put a 4K camera and an AI brain that tracks a moving person, and add the ability to take off right from the palm of your hand. That's the DJI Neo.

This is not a replacement for the DJI Air or Mavic. It is a completely different category – a personal drone for content creation, where the main role is not the technical perfection of the footage, but the speed of use and freedom of movement. No tripod. No assistant. Just you, the drone and a shot that you would never get otherwise.

From our experience, we know that most people hesitate not because of the price, but because of the question: will I be able to control it? With the DJI Neo, the answer is simple – yes, you can. Even on the first day.

Who is the DJI Neo series made for?

Beginners and people without pilot experience

The DJI Neo requires no pilot training. Palm takeoff works exactly as it sounds. The drone stabilizes itself, adjusts its altitude, and waits for your command. You can focus on what you want to film, not how to keep the drone in the air.

For a complete beginner, the Neo is probably the lowest barrier to entry into the world of drones that DJI has ever offered. Without unnecessary complexity.

Travelers and backpackers

Neo fits into any backpack without adding significant weight or taking up valuable space. You'll appreciate it on vacation - no more unfurling tripod legs on the beach, no more waiting for the "right moment." Just pull it out of your pocket, take off, and shoot.

It is often forgotten that flight time is the most important parameter when traveling. 18 minutes per flight plus a backup battery is enough for most shots. If you plan on filming intensively, take two batteries - and you are covered for the whole day.

Social media content creators

Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts – all of these formats live off of footage that simply wouldn’t be possible without a drone. A bird’s-eye view, a circling around a person, a dramatic reveal of a scene. QuickShots modes generate these movements automatically, with the push of a button.

It's not a trick or a shortcut. It's a time-saving tool —and time is more precious than any equipment when it comes to content creation.

Vloggers and YouTube creators

For longer format content, Neo is the ideal complement to your main camera. Whether you’re shooting an establishing shot from above, a reveal scene, or a shot where the drone follows you as you walk or ride a bike, the AI tracking can handle these situations without the need for a second person.

Where the Neo falls a bit short? When moving very fast or in a complicated environment full of obstacles. Here you would reach for a larger drone with a mechanical gimbal. But that is not the target audience of the Neo – and it is important to know this.

DJI Neo vs DJI Neo 2 – comparison

This is the question we get asked the most. And the honest answer is: it depends on what you want from a drone.

Property DJI Neo DJI Neo 2

Stabilization basic EIS advanced EIS
AI tracking standard more accurate, faster
Flight time ~18 minutes longer (improved battery)

When to buy DJI Neo (1st generation)

Neo is the right choice if: you want your first drone without a high investment, you shoot occasionally and don't need maximum performance, you are looking for a lightweight addition to your existing equipment, or you simply want to experiment with aerial photography without commitment.

Warning: The Neo (1st gen) does not have advanced obstacle avoidance. Be careful if you plan to fly in dense urban environments or forests. The drone will not tell you if it is approaching something.

When to buy DJI Neo 2

Neo 2 is for you if: you create content regularly and care about the quality of your footage, you want more accurate AI tracking for fast movements, you need longer flight time for longer shoots, or you plan to fly in more complicated environments where you will appreciate better sensors.

Many people make the mistake of buying a cheaper model to try out and selling it after three months because it's not enough for them. The price difference between the two models isn't dramatic - and the difference in performance is real. Sometimes it pays to buy the right model right away.

Features you will appreciate in practice

Palm takeoff and landing

The drone takes off directly from the palm of your hand. No launch pad, no putting it down. On the beach, in the park, in a mountain meadow. Landing works the same way – the drone descends back into your outstretched hand.

In practice, this means you don't waste time on logistics and can react to the moment instantly. This is a feature that seems like a small thing on paper, but you'll appreciate it every day in the field.

AI tracking – personal tracking

Neo follows your body automatically. Are you walking? It keeps the shot. Are you cycling? It keeps the shot. Are you turning? It adapts. The AI system recognizes the body and maintains the composition without your intervention.

The Neo 2 takes tracking up a notch – it responds better to changes in direction, handles higher speeds, and loses track less in more complex environments. If you plan to film sports or fast-moving action, the difference is noticeable.

What AI tracking can't handle: dense crowds or rapid changes in people in the shot. In these situations, the drone may switch to another person. You need to be aware of this and plan the shot accordingly.

QuickShots – cinematic movements with one tap

Pre-programmed camera movements that produce footage that looks like it came from a professional production:

  • Orbit – the drone circles around you or an object
  • Dronie – flying away from you with a downward view, dramatically revealing your surroundings
  • Rocket – direct ascent upwards while looking down
  • Boomerang – elliptical movement around the subject
  • Helix – spiral exit with a view of the subject
  • Follow – tracking a subject as it moves

Each of these movements takes a few seconds and the result is a finished shot – without post-production, without editing, without animating the camera movement.

Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS)

The Neo doesn't use a mechanical gimbal like larger drones. It uses advanced electronic stabilization to eliminate shake and ensure smooth footage. For social media and vlogging, the result is more than enough.

Where is the difference compared to a mechanical gimbal? With very fast changes of direction or strong winds, EIS may show limits. For 90% But it's not a problem when using it with Neo.

Security features

Even a small drone should have safety nets:

  • Automatic altitude hold – the drone hangs stably without your intervention
  • Return to Home – if the signal is lost, the drone returns to the takeoff point
  • Propeller protection – physical protection against accidental contact
  • Height and distance limit – adjustable via app for safe flight

The Neo 2 adds sensors for active obstacle avoidance – in practice, this means the drone will slow down or stop in front of an object instead of flying into it. For beginners, this is a noticeable safety feature.

Accessories for DJI Neo – what really makes sense

At Xtreme.sk you can find original DJI accessories. Here's a look at what's worth it and what's less essential:

Backup battery – first priority

The Neo's flight time is limited. If you plan on filming for more than 20 minutes, a backup battery isn't a luxury—it's a necessity. A single backup battery will double your time in the field and costs a fraction of the price of the drone.

Tip: Two backup batteries + charging hub = comfortable filming without stress about capacity.

Charging hub

You charge multiple batteries simultaneously, in order of charge level. When traveling, this means you set up charging in the morning and leave – all batteries are waiting, charged.

ND filters

ND (Neutral Density) filters reduce the amount of light entering the lens. The result: more natural video movement, a more cinematic look to your footage, and better exposure on a bright day.

For neo, a set of ND4, ND8 and ND16 is a good start. If you are only shooting for TikTok and Instagram, filters are not a requirement. If you want a higher level of quality – they are worth it.

Protective case

The Neo is compact, but not indestructible. The propellers and camera are sensitive to impact. A hard travel case or soft neoprene case are investments that can save you from a more expensive repair.

Controller

Controlling via phone is functional, but a physical controller (DJI RC-N3 or RC2) adds comfort, range, and connection stability. If you plan on flying regularly, a controller is worth it. For occasional use, the app will suffice.

Drones and legislation in Slovakia – what you need to know

Aviation legislation for drones has changed significantly in recent years. In Slovakia (and throughout the EU), EASA regulations apply, categorizing drones by weight and method of use.

DJI Neo is an ultralight drone in category C0 (up to 250 g). In most cases , a simplified regime applies to drones in this weight class, without the need for a pilot's license - but with certain conditions: a ban on flying over crowded places, restrictions near airports, and a ban on flying at night without permission.

We always recommend checking the current rules directly with the Slovak Transport Authority or via the map in the DJI Fly app, which displays flight restrictions in real time. Rules change and what was valid a month ago may not be valid today.

TIP: We recommend reading the article Drones Legislation 2026

FAQ - frequently asked questions about DJI Neo

Do I need a pilot's license?

DJI Neo is an ultralight drone with the C0 designation up to 250g. In this category, you do not need a pilot's license in Slovakia.

Can it be controlled without a remote control?

Yes. The Neo works via the DJI Fly mobile app or automatic QuickShots modes. The controller adds reach and comfort, but is not required. You will need the controller for 80% of your social media shots.

What is the actual flight time?

DJI Neo (1st gen.) flies for around 12-13 minutes in good conditions. In practice – with wind, cold weather or intensive tracking – expect 9-10 minutes. DJI NEO 2 flies for 16-15 minutes, in colder weather around 12 minutes. That's why we recommend a backup battery as your first purchase.

Is 4K video usable for YouTube?

Full. For vlogs, reels and shorts, the quality is more than sufficient. For professional commercial productions, you should go for the DJI Air or DJI Mavic models, but that's not the target audience of the Neo.

Does Neo have obstacle avoidance?

DJI Neo has basic safety features (altitude hold, return when signal is lost). But it doesn't have active obstacle avoidance like more expensive models. DJI Neo 2 handles this better. It includes optical fisheye top and bottom sensors + front LiDAR sensor which ensures pretty good obstacle avoidance.

Is Neo suitable for travel abroad?

Yes, but always check the flight restrictions of the destination country via the DJI Fly map or local regulations. Some countries have strict rules even for ultralight drones.

What controller do you recommend for the Neo?

For everyday use, control via phone is sufficient. The DJI RC-N3 or DJI RC2 adds physical controllers, a longer range, and a more comfortable screen – perfect if you plan to fly regularly and want full control over longer distances. Another option is the Motion Combo, which includes FPV goggles and a Motion Controller for a great FPV experience.
