New GoPro camera 2026 with GP3 processor – What can we expect from the revolutionary new product?

GoPro is preparing the biggest leap in the history of action cameras. In April 2026, at the NAB Show, it will introduce a completely new generation of cameras powered by the revolutionary GP3 processor. What do we know about the news so far and what can we expect?

GoPro GP3 Processor – The Heart of the New Generation

GoPro has officially unveiled its new 5-nanometer GP3 chip, which promises more than double the performance of its predecessor, the GP2. It's not just an upgrade - it's a completely new architecture with a dedicated AI neural processing unit (NPU) that recognizes scenes, detects objects, and automatically adjusts camera settings in real time. This means that even without any manual intervention, the camera should deliver professional-quality images.

Glimpses of the future in official GoPro videos

GoPro hasn't released full specs for the new cameras yet, but official teasers and demo videos have already revealed a lot. The videos show footage with a distinctly cinematic feel, from macro details of the human eye to close-ups of the moon. The quality of the moving image is particularly impressive, suggesting a huge leap forward in video processing.

"GoPro are about to change the game forever"
The new processor hints at possibilities far beyond traditional action shots.
We will definitely see new types of optics and even (personal opinion) the ability to connect a real lens from mirrorless cameras via a reducer.

What can we expect from the new GoPro camera?

Based on officially released information and hints from teasers, the following can be expected:

  • Significantly improved low-light performance – AI neural processor enables a whole new level of image processing, which should deliver usable, noise-free night shots
  • Larger image sensors – GoPro openly talks about larger sensors, which means more light and better dynamics
  • Higher resolution and frame rate – more than double the pixel processing power suggests support for both higher resolutions and speeds
  • Longer battery life – a more efficient 5nm chip should significantly reduce power consumption and improve recording time
  • Better thermal properties – no more overheating camera body during long shots, even in demanding conditions
  • AI real-time scene recognition – the camera recognizes the environment and automatically sets the optimal parameters
  • Multiple new models – GoPro hints at a whole new family of cameras including action cameras, 360° cameras, vlogging cameras and ultra-premium compact cameras with cinematic quality
  • Professional quality in a compact body – teaser images suggest quality on par with much larger cameras

When and where will the new GoPro cameras be introduced?

GoPro will officially unveil its new products at the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 19-22, 2026, in booth C5519 in the Central Hall. Cameras with the GP3 processor are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2026.

Why it's worth waiting for the new GoPro

If you're a GoPro fan or looking for your first action camera, this is probably the best time to wait. Everything indicates that GoPro is not just making a small improvement this time, but a real generational leap. The combination of AI processing, larger sensors, and new camera formats could change the entire compact camera market.
